Citizen Cope releases ‘The River’ From His First Album In 7 Years
American song-writer, producer and performer Citizen Cope (Clarence Greenwood), is back with a great fusion of blues, soul, folk and rock. Citizen Cope releases his new song ‘The River’ from his first album in seven years – ‘Heroin And Helicopters.’ Full album out March 1st on Rainwater Recordings/Thirty Tigers.
‘The River’ is a track amongst the rest of the songs in the album that focuses on themes on religion, political manipulation, hollowness in the entertainment world, and spiritual enlightenment. ‘The River’ is both an ode to hip-hop and the protest songs of Neil Young. With heavy drums and acoustic guitar at the forefront, the lyrics take on the devalued life of humankind and the tyrannical devices used by the ruling few to divide people in all class systems through racial, cultural, economical, and religious lines. Billboard praised the new song, calling it both ‘personal and poignant.’
Lead single ‘Justice’ has already garnered positive attention with eager words from NPR Music’s Word Cafe explaining single as a song that ‘swaggers with a head-nodding groove and contains a yearning and soulful message of optimism and positivity.‘ Listen below to hear ‘The River’…
Citizen Cope will tour extensively in support of the new record, making stops at The Beacon Theatre in New York City, The Novo in Los Angeles, and more. Full tour routing below.
